Today marks the first day of Sky Ball XIV, an annual 3-day event hosted by American Airlines that honors and raises funds for military servicemembers, veterans, and their families. This year’s event will also include recognition of men and women who have served in U.S. Special Operations Command, including Navy SEALs, Green Berets, Army Rangers, Marine Raiders, and more.

Event Beneficiaries

Funds raised from the event are handled by the Airpower Foundation, a non-profit organization which will disburse the donations to 10 pre-selected non-profit initiatives: the Gary Sinise Foundation, Snowball Express, the American Fallen Soldiers Project, Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation, USSOCOM Care Coalition, Heroes on the Water, Salute to the Troops, Thanks USA, USO Metropolitan Washington-Baltimore, and Task Force Dagger Foundation. Each of these organizations provides critical support and aid to military and veteran families in need. Last year’s Sky Ball raised over $2.2 million for military and veteran non-profit groups, and this year American Airlines anticipates raising even more for these organizations.

Event Details

This year’s event will be held at a specially converted American Airlines Hangar in the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. Refreshments will be provided by celebrity chef Robert Irvine, with the help of Wolfgang Puck Catering, as well as Texas Land and Cattle, Lonestar Steakhouse, Coca-Cola, Monster Energy, Sodexo, and Budweiser.

Entertainment will be provided each night of the event, with such artists as America’s Tenor Steve Amerson, Tony Orlando, Gary Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band, Terry Fator, Daniel Rodriguez, and country music legend Tim McGraw.

There will also be static aircraft displays provided by various aviation organizations, including the Army’s own 160th SOAR (Special Operations Aviation Regiment), with whom Nine Line Apparel’s CEO Tyler Merritt formerly served.

Nine Line Involvement

Nine Line Apparel is excited to have been able to create commemorative shirts for the event. American Airlines has been gracious in their show of support for our own Nine Line Foundation, donating 750,000 miles to the Foundation so that our wounded veteran candidates are able to take part in events such as this, to raise funds and awareness for the Nine Line Foundation’s initiatives.

The Foundation’s current candidate, SFC Aaron Causey, and his family will be attending the event, as well as veteran Michael Boncek and his family, who have shown amazing support for the Nine Line Foundation through Boncek’s Walk by Faith, a Mountain-to-Sea hike to raise awareness for veteran suicide.

The event will take place from Thursday, October 20, through Saturday, October 22, culminating with the American Airlines Sky Ball XIV Gala on Saturday evening.
