Earlier this week NBA star LeBron James appeared to support the Communist government of China when he criticized Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey’s tweeted support of pro-Democracy protesters in Hong Kong.

Speaking to reporters, James said “I just think that, when you’re misinformed or you’re not educated about something – and I’m just talking about the tweet itself – you never know the ramifications that can happen. We all see what that did, not only did for our league but for all of us in America, for people in China as well. Sometimes you have to think through the things that you say that may cause harm not only for yourself but for the majority of people. I think that’s just a prime example of that.”

Perhaps Mr. James needs a bit more education on the subject of how China treats its citizens – and especially its minorities, since King James is so concerned about “social justice” in this nation.

How about the fact that slavery is still going on in China?

According to an article appearing in the Wall Street Journal, China has thousands of cotton and apparel companies in its desolate Xinjiang province using forced or prison labor.

China is the world’s largest cotton producer, and has built the world’s largest prison system to provide the labor needed to sustain production. The Wall Street Journal report says “Inmates in Xinjiang prisons serve as a key labor force in the cotton value chain, from cotton-field reclamation and construction of irrigation systems to planting, harvesting, processing and garment production.”

Forced labor is nothing new in China. Ever since the Communist Party took over in 1949, China has shipped prisoners to Xinjiang to do hard labor and “contribute to Xinjiang’s economic development” in the harsh desert environment.

But perhaps LeBron needs to be educated that a big part of the Chinese slavery program is ethnic cleansing.

The Chinese government has been working very hard to eliminate its minority Muslim Uighur population for years. In 2014, the government implemented a strategy of mass detention of Uighurs in so-called re-education camps or vocational training centers “intended to cleanse them of their ethnic identity and make them loyal to the Communist Party.”

It’s estimated that up to a million Uighurs have been enslaved in the system. In addition to the forced labor of adults in the Xinjiang province, the BBC reports in 2017 alone at least half a million children were also forcefully separated from their families, and placed in pre-school camps with prison-style surveillance systems and 10.000 volt electric fences.

You’d think these facts might bother social justice warriors like LeBron James. But hey, there’s business to be done in China. So shut yo’ mouth.

Forbes says, “the NBA has had tremendous success in China, a country that now has 300 million basketball players. Roughly 500 million Chinese watched at least one NBA game last season, according to the league. Teams added 47 million new followers on Chinese social media platforms last year, and the league signed a five-year, $1.5 billion contract extension with Tencent in July to air NBA games online in China. NBA China, which launched in 2008, is worth more than $4 billion, according to NBA deputy commissioner Mark Tatum.”

Former Golden State Warriors center Andrew Bogut had his own riposte on the matter, with an oblique reference to King James and the “woke” NBA.

“Everyone is for the “cause” until the “cause” costs them $$$$$…….”
