SAVANNAH, Ga. (WJCL) – Hundreds of people went the extra mile in Savannah to raise money for an American hero.

Saturday was the 3rd annual Nine Line Run for the Wounded and took place on Hutchinson Island. This is the primary fundraising event for the Nine Line Foundation in its efforts to support combat wounded veterans. Runners completed the 5K and 10K runs to raise money for Retired Army SFC Aaron Causey. SFC Causey lost his legs after stepping on and IED while serving in Afghanistan in September 2011. The money raised through the event on Saturday will be used to help build a home for him and his family in Birmingham.

“It’s just so heartwarming and touching to know that there are still so many people in America who want to just go out and help those who need it,”

The Foundation raised $50,000 for Causey and his family at the event.
