Mara Gay, a member of the New York Times editorial board, and contributor to MSNBC, over the weekend said the sight of “dozens of American flags” flown on trucks in Long Island, New York, over the weekend was “disturbing.”

During an appearance on MSNBC, Gay said, “I was on Long Island this weekend visiting a really dear friend, and I was really disturbed. I saw, you know, dozens and dozens of pickup trucks with expletives against Joe Biden on the back of them, Trump flags, and in some cases just dozens of American flags, which is also just disturbing.”

Gay said the message being sent by the Trump supporters was clear: “This is my country. This is not your country. I own this.”
“The reality is here that we have a large percentage of the American population — I don’t know how big it is, but we have tens of millions of Trump voters who continue to believe that their rights as citizens are under threat by simple virtue of having to share the democracy with others.”

By “others” Gay implied that the real problem is racism.

“I think that as long as they see Americanness as the same as one with Whiteness, this is going to continue,” Gay continued, claiming that Americans must address “Whiteness,” but a “large percentage of Americans” don’t grasp the threat it poses.

Ohhhh. Now you’re a racist if you display the American flag.

The New York Times swiftly defended Gay, saying her comments had been “taken out of context” and were discussing the politicization of the flag and not targeting the flag itself.

“New York Times editorial board member Mara Gay’s comments on MSNBC have been irresponsibly taken out of context,” the Times said in a statement tweeted on Tuesday evening. “Her argument was that Trump and many of his supporters have politicized the American flag. The attacks on her today are ill-informed and grounded in bad-faith.”

Criticism of Gay’s opinions came swiftly.

Gay quickly acknowledged the backlash, but said it only proves her point about how very racist people are.

“I see I’m being trolled with the American flag this morning,” Gay said. “Trolling a Black journalist with the American flag is not the own some people think it is.”

Here’s a rather nice compilation for all the American flag-wavers in the Nine Line universe. We know who you are!!

So the very sight of a truck with a flag, hurt her feelings. Then she indicates white democracy isn’t the same as the rest of our democracy. Democracy is a majority vote, what my vote doesn’t count, until I get on board with her the 13%. Yea she’s a real racist, she seems to think whites are the problem with her life. They could be, but haven’t as of yet. I wonder if all the whites pull their money out of certain investments ; hired employees strictly on merit and their entrance test scores ; level loan qualifications, and handed out pay increases on work produced. I wonder if she’d blame whites for her life then too ? Then your life is shit, done questionable things, and have nobody to blame (so blame whites or blacks). Sounds like the white racist in the 50’s & 60’s. This going to be so much fun watching idiots that have a plan. It’s going to blackfire I mean backfire on them. Ok, Americans lets have some fun.

The principles of democracy are these 6 things which are popular sovereignty, limited government, separation of powers, checks and balances, judicial review, and federalism. She failed to mention that the Socialist, Marxists, Communist Democrats that occupy DC at the moment don’t give a rats ass about any of them. If the minority of liberal voters cannot get on board with America that lives and breathes The Land of the Free AND Home of the Brave, then maybe this is not the best country for them to live in. Just like those who immigrate here legally to enjoy our Freedoms, these liberals like this reporter can immigrate legally to a country that suites her Socialist values better. I will fly my American Flag Proudly and I will support those who do and will never talk down to them as she did. The more pick-up trucks, the better. I am born and raised in the USA and I am not ashamed of being an American

I am a son of an immigrant. If you think that my flag offends you. There are 200 other countries in this world you can find a flag that like. Let me know. I will pay for tour flight to get out of my country.

Not everything revolves around race or one person. I told my son that years ago. The American flag means America and Americans. That includes this idiot. Is she was white, I’d say, “The flag means America and Americans. That includes this idiot.”

You’re bothered by the American flag and you live in America, perhaps you should move to Saudi Arabia.

This is all Fake Outrage. I am a US born child of a migrant and I am proud to call this flag mine. It is sad to see that migrants are more patriotic than many Americans. To prove my point, you never see migrant (legal or not) stepping on the American Flag or taking a knee. They know what it’s like on the other side of the fence and appreciate being here.
