This Sunday, June 28th marks the 15th anniversary of the Murph Challenge, an event that honors the sacrifice and service of LT. Michael P. Murphy, the Commander of the four-man reconnaissance team of Operation Redwing.

Murphy and two other SEALs, Danny Dietz and Matthew Axelson, were killed in the fighting. Only Marcus Luttrell did not die, and told his story in “Lone Survivor.”

The Murph Challenge is the official annual fundraiser of the LT. Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation, presented by Forged®.

But this isn’t yo momma’s fitness workout.

It’s a one-mile run. One hundred pullups. Two hundred pushups. Three hundred squats. And another one-mile run…in a 20-pound vest or body armor.

Are you badass enough to complete it? Well, we’re gonna try.

On Sunday members of the Nine Line team are heading down to REDCON 1 Gym in Boca Raton, FL to participate in the Murph Challenge. We’ll meet up with our friend Marcus Luttrell and other vets to test our mettle.

The Murph Challenge is particularly close to our hearts. While many Americans know the story of Navy SEALS Murphy, Dietz, Axelson and Luttrell, they may not know the stories of the 16 U.S. soldiers killed when their helicopter was shot down while attempting to extract the SEAL Team.

Maj. Stephen Reich was the commander of the eight-member 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (SOAR) team who flew into eastern Afghanistan to rescue the Operation Redwing SEAL team on June 28, 2005.

Reich’s team, in a MH-47 Delta Chinook helicopter, was attempting to insert an eight-man SEAL team, when an RPG (rocket-propelled grenade) took down the chopper and killed all 16 warriors on board.

Nine Line’s co-founder and CEO, Army CPT Tyler Merritt, was a member of SOAR, a Night Stalker in the 160th. So it’s all close pretty close to home.

Speaking of close to home, if the REDCON1 gym in Florida isn’t close to your home, you can still join the Murph Challenge.

You can register to work out on your own, and post your time, or find a local gym that’s one of the official hosts.

According to their website, The Murph Challenge is the Official annual fundraiser of the LT. Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation, presented by Forged®. It is also one of the primary means of funding for the Foundation on an annual basis. YOUR support is what drives our success!

Since 2014, Forged® has raised over $1,000,000+ for the LT. Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation through The Murph Challenge campaign. In 2019, The Murph Challenge Fundraiser provided a vehicle to raise nearly $250,000 in order to finalize construction on the LT Michael P. Murphy Navy SEAL Museum/Sea Cadet Training Facility in Long Island, NY! In addition to that, and ONLY with such overwhelming support and success, the Foundation awarded 32 scholarships in 2019 and 2 new scholarships in 2020!

The Murph Challenge is more than just a workout. It is a tradition that helps push us, humble us, and allows us the opportunity to dedicate a bit of pain and sweat to honor, LT. Michael P. Murphy, a man who sacrificed everything he had for our freedom.
