Sadly, this is where we are today. Obviously, not every 22-year-old thinks this way — because there are plenty of them serving in uniform — but the fact this little dweeb does, should set off a few alarm bells among all of us.

Freddie Bentley is an “Instagram influencer” and reality TV “star” in the UK (sorry for so many air quotes, but we just can’t use those terms without the added sarcasm).

Bentley is currently appearing on the UK version of the Apprentice, and during the last episode, his team had the task of finding a pre-WWII copy of Alice in Wonderland. Needless to say, the team failed miserably before even getting out of the gate. Not a single member of the team knew the year World War II started or ended.

But it gets worse.

The next day, Bentley appeared on “Good Morning Britain” to defend his ignorance in a perfectly snowflake-ish way. In an interview with the hosts, he said schools need to reduce the amount of time they spend teaching students about the war because it’s “so intense” and they need to be mindful of students’ mental health.

“It was a hard situation, World War Two, I don’t want anyone to think I’m being disrespectful,” he said, but added: “I remember learning it as a child thinking “Oh my God it’s so intense.”

“I don’t think encouraging death or telling people how many people died in the world war is going to make it better.”

Bentley suggested schools should spend more time teaching kids about life skills like how to get a mortgage or how to understand Brexit.

“There’s so many problems going on in the world, like Brexit, that’s not taught in schools,” he said. “When I left school it hit me like a ton of bricks – I didn’t know anything to do with life.”

Ok, well at least THAT bit is intelligent.

Not surprisingly, he was immediately and justifiably slammed on social media. Undeterred, Bentley responded.

FactsAreFacts!!!! My full GMB debate for those who have been jumping to the wrong conclusions!! Watch it in full before hiding behind your keyboard with abuse!!!! My point as per the interview is all about the right balance. I clearly state that I am not being disrespectful nor asking to stop teaching WW2 completely! My point is, it needs to be taught in moderation to promote mental health and focus on teaching young people real life skills and to prepare for current issues that are relevant to us such as how to get a mortgage, what are the real impact of Brexit and climate change for future generation! #GMB #mentalhealth #reallifeskills #standingupforbeterfuture Ps: vulgar abusive emails have been reported!!

Oh, barf.

You know, when we were growing up, we thought our parents didn’t know ANYthing and we knew EVERYthing. And our parents just thought we were silly kids who said dumb stuff.

Our parents were, of course, right.

The problem is, where are the parents now? Who is still teaching history and life lessons to the little whiny Freddie Bentleys of the world?

And don’t forget: 22-year-olds are old enough to vote. In fact, in the US, 2020 might be their second presidential election. Now that’s a sobering thought, isn’t it?
