U.S. Dems are in a collective meltdown over Israel’s decision to ban a visit from outspoken Muslim congresswomen Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., and Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich.  The two Reps were scheduled to visit Jerusalem and the West Bank this weekend.

Of course the ban is all Donald Trump’s fault.

The Lefties claim Israel took a dive after Trump tweeted, “It would show great weakness if Israel allowed Rep. Omar and Rep.Tlaib to visit. They hate Israel & all Jewish people, & there is nothing that can be said or done to change their minds. Minnesota and Michigan will have a hard time putting them back in office. They are a disgrace!”

Mere hours after Trump’s tweet appeared, Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu tweeted his own salvo,  saying Omar and Tlaib won’t be allowed to enter because it “became clear that they were planning a campaign whose sole purpose was to strengthen the boycott and negate Israel’s legitimacy.”

But the overblown outrage from the Left conveniently overlooks two key facts.

Fact number one: Forgetting for a moment that every country has the sovereign right to allow or disallow anyone it wants to cross its borders (clearly incomprehensible to most Dems), it has also escaped the notice of the Mainstream Media and Democrat politicians that Israel passed a law in 2017 – that’s TWO years ago for anyone keeping score – prohibiting the entry of any foreigner into Israel who makes a “public call for boycotting Israel” or “any area under its control.”

How is this Trump’s fault? Israel is simply flexing its own legislative muscles.

As David M. Friedman, the U.S. ambassador to Israel said in a statement, “Initially, Israel had indicated that it would accept the Tlaib/Omar Delegation, and use their visit as an opportunity to engage with and educate the delegation members with regard to Israel’s vibrant and robust democracy, its religious tolerance and its ethnic diversity. Unfortunately, the itinerary of the Tlaib/Omar Delegation leaves no room for that opportunity. In contrast to the nearly 70 freshmen members of Congress who just recently completed, or who are currently pursuing, a balanced visit to Israel that includes meetings with both Israeli and Palestinian leaders, the Tlaib/Omar Delegation has limited its exposure to tours organized by the most strident of BDS activists. This trip, pure and simple, is nothing more than an effort to fuel the BDS engine that Congresswomen Tlaib and Omar so vigorously support.”

Time gleefully reported this whole event has “unified Democrats” including those who have been critical of Omar and Tlaib in the past.

Among others, Time highlighted the comments of:

Rep. Josh Gottheimer,  who called the decision “a serious, strategic mistake.”

Rep. Brad Schneider said “It will provide a false, negative narrative of Israel as weak and fearful-a misperception that enemies of Israel will most certainly seek to exploit.”

Rep. Ted Deutch, said he was “extremely disappointed” with the decision.

Rep. Eliot Engel, Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee released a scathing statement.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer personally called both Israeli Ambassador to the U.S. Ron Dermer and Netanyahu on Wednesday, and classified the country’s decision as a sign of weakness — and urged reconsideration.

Since when is standing strong for the sake of your country a sign of weakness?

But there’s another little thing all these liberals conveniently ignore.

In July of this year, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution – by an overwhelming 389-17 margin –condemning the boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) campaign against Israel saying it “promotes principles of collective guilt, mass punishment and group isolation, which are destructive of prospects for progress towards peace.”

Here’s a list of folks, perhaps not surprisingly, who voted against condemning BDS.

  • Earl Blumenauer (D-Oregon)
  • Andre Carson(D-Indiana)
  • Debbie Dingell (D-Michigan)
  • Jesus “Chuy” Garcia (D-Illinois)
  • Raul Grijalva (D-Arizona)
  • Pramila Jayapal (D-Washington)
  • Barbara Lee (D-California)
  • Thomas Massie (R-Kentucky)
  • Betty McCollum (D-Minnesota)
  • Gwen Moore (D-Wisconsin)
  • Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-New York)
  • Ilhan Omar (D-Minnesota)
  • Chellie Pingree (D-Maine)
  • Mark Pocan (D-Wisconsin)
  • Bobby Rush (D-Illinois)
  • Rashida Tlaib (D-Michigan)
  • Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-New Jersey)

Which means all the Dem Reps quoted by Time who are so bent out of shape over Israel’s ban actually AGREE with Israel on the subject of BDS.

So let’s just review this again. The Left is blaming Trump for a travel ban, based on a law Israel passed two years ago, and attacking him for speaking out against the BDS movement, which is the very thing they just did last month.

Business as usual in The Swamp.
