Nine Line Launches Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign for Month of October CPT (r) Tyler Merritt September 22, 2016 Nine Line News, Non Profit Initiatives 201 Breast cancer is one of the deadliest diseases that impacts women around the globe, with an estimated 1 in 8 women coping with the illness in their lifetime. New treatments and preventative measures are on the rise, however, the disease is still a deadly epidemic. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention*, in 2013 alone, 230,815 women were diagnosed with breast cancer, and 40,860 lost their lives to the illness. According to a study conducted by the Walter Reed Army Medical Center**, women in the military have a significantly higher risk of developing breast cancer compared to their civilian counterparts, with an increased likelihood of 20-40%. Multiple factors were cited in this study as potential causes for this drastic differentiation, including exposure to hazardous chemicals, radio emissions, solar radiation, and toxic chemicals, as well as a higher use of oral contraceptives. Not only do these women put their lives on the line every day in service to our country, but they are also at risk for this terrible disease due to the nature of the environments in which they serve. For this reason, Nine Line Apparel has chosen to devote the entire month of October to promoting awareness of the epidemic, and supporting veterans currently battling the disease. Our website and social media will be laced with homage to the Pink Ribbon that is universally recognized as the official symbol of breast cancer. We are offering a Breast Cancer Awareness Limited Time Design, and a portion of sales will benefit Vets Fighting Breast Cancer, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization committed to the prevention, treatment, and eventual eradication of the disease, especially among female veterans. We will have giveaways with special “Pink” items throughout the month on all of our social media platforms, so help us spread the word and #STOPTHEWARINMYRACK.
