“My great and unmatched wisdom” —Trump tweet defending Syria pullout breaks the internet Nine Line News Team October 8, 2019 In The Press, Nine Line News 109 To learn more about our mission, visit: www.ninelineapparel.com Late last night, President Trump announced he would be pulling U.S. troops out of northeast Syria. The decision came after a scheduled call with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and appears to put American-backed Kurdish-led fighters in danger of a military assault by Turkey, which has long viewed the Kurds in northern Syria as a security threat. In a series of tweets, Trump defended his decision saying “I was elected on getting out of these ridiculous endless wars, where our great Military functions as a policing operation to the benefit of people who don’t even like the USA…The endless and ridiculous wars are ENDING! We will be focused on the big picture, knowing we can always go back & BLAST!” But it was his threat to punish Turkey economically, if Erdogan steps out of line after the withdrawal, that set the twitterverse ablaze. Trump tweeted “If Turkey does anything that I, in my great and unmatched wisdom, consider to be off limits, I will totally destroy and obliterate the Economy of Turkey (I’ve done before!) As I have stated strongly before, and just to reiterate, if Turkey does anything that I, in my great and unmatched wisdom, consider to be off limits, I will totally destroy and obliterate the Economy of Turkey (I’ve done before!). They must, with Europe and others, watch over… — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 7, 2019 The phrase “great and unmatched wisdom” has spawned its own hashtag, trending with (not surprisingly) Wizard of Oz. Here’s just a selection of hashtag responses from (verified) Trump critics… I never thought I would live to see an American President speak this way, using language the can only be described as authoritarian. Fellow Republicans, where is the line? https://t.co/UzYM1ciGnY — Jeff Flake (@JeffFlake) October 7, 2019 I, in my own great and unmatched wisdom, consider this tweet to be off limits. Please destroy & obliterate it @realDonaldTrump – you're the President of the United States, not some tinpot dictator. https://t.co/f8AmVgg4Bf — Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) October 7, 2019 Trump just tweeted about his “great and unmatched wisdom.” In related news, here is a picture of him staring and pointing at an eclipse. pic.twitter.com/3FqQrSVYNO — Joseph Scrimshaw (@JosephScrimshaw) October 7, 2019 And some other ones… In my #greatandunmatchedwisdom, I cooked a Cornish game hen wrapped in aluminum foil in my microwave for breakfast . . . pic.twitter.com/8wrpMtZz1w — Jim Noles (@ByJimNoles) October 7, 2019 When you're so batsh*t that you've even lost Pat Robertson, chances are you dont't possess #greatandunmatchedwisdom . https://t.co/Neye8xqFsM — Operative_X (@OperativeXRay) October 7, 2019 From the guy who can't figure out an umbrella… #greatandunmatchedwisdom @realDonaldTrump pic.twitter.com/mQOIBcpTju — William Cox (@ScienceHill360) October 7, 2019 But then there are those who support the president’s decision, because it was simply another conflict the U.S. could never win. Got to hand it to Graham…how better to play the Moron-In-Chief than play reverse psychology utilizing Obama. But poor Lindsay never met a war he didn't like, or couldn't support with blood other than his own. #greatandunmatchedwisdom pic.twitter.com/WTg7bw0r7R — LK Lawson (@HerzogFan) October 7, 2019 I went w/ @AmbJohnBolton to Jerusalem and Ankara in January Michael. I don’t know what we can do other than a staged withdrawal or a permanent garrison. The challenge of the century is on the seas, in space and in Asia. It is not on the Turkish-Syrian border. https://t.co/ffaAy5LiSq — Hugh Hewitt (@hughhewitt) October 7, 2019 What do you think? Is this last one correct?
