Trump tweets question about delaying election; causes instant meltdown. Nine Line News Team July 30, 2020 Nine Line News 239 For those wishing President Trump would stop using his Twitter feed for stream-of-consciousness thoughts and lobbing firebombs to his political (and media adversaries), the answer is…yeah, no. Today the President asked his audience of 84 million followers on Twitter whether the presidential election should be delayed until people can properly, securely and safely vote. “With Universal Mail-In Voting (not Absentee Voting, which is good), 2020 will be the most INACCURATE & FRAUDULENT Election in history. It will be a great embarrassment to the USA. Delay the Election until people can properly, securely, and safely vote???” Supporters of universal mail-in voting say there is little empirical evidence to suggest it gives rise to widespread fraud, but until now only about a quarter of all voters have used mail-in ballots. Oregon was the first state to issue all ballots by mail in 2000, and in 2018, nearly all voters did so by mail. But in most states, fewer than 10 percent of voters used mail-in ballots. And it’s not only blue states who favor mail-in ballots. States with more than 60 percent of votes cast via mail in the 2018 midterms include California, New Mexico, Colorado, Washington and Oregon – but also include Montana, Arizona and Utah. But Trump’s tweet caused an immediate meltdown in the media. With Universal Mail-In Voting (not Absentee Voting, which is good), 2020 will be the most INACCURATE & FRAUDULENT Election in history. It will be a great embarrassment to the USA. Delay the Election until people can properly, securely and safely vote??? — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 30, 2020 CNN quickly reported “Trump has no authority to delay an election, and the Constitution gives Congress the power to set the date for voting. Lawmakers from both parties said almost immediately there was no likelihood the election would be delayed.” “Yet Trump’s message provides an opening — long feared by Democrats — that both he and his supporters might refuse to accept the presidential results. In questioning the results ahead of time, Trump is priming those in his camp to doubt the legitimacy of whatever outcome emerges in the first weeks of November.” Whatever outcome emerges? Do they really think Trump will contest the election if he wins?? “Trump has previously sought to stoke fear and lay the groundwork to question the election’s results by promoting the idea that mail-in voting leads to widespread fraud and a “rigged” election. Democrats have warned his efforts are meant both to suppress voting and to provide a reason to refuse to leave office should he lose.” Of course, according to his opponents, Trump is heading for a humiliating defeat. Just like they thought would happen in 2016. And we all know how that worked out.
